My sister keeps calling from India. She finally got a flight but won't get in till Monday morning.
The ICU doc, a pulmonologist, had the talk with the two of us this morning. We will have to make decisions soon. The biPap machine to help expel accumulated carbon dioxide seems to finally be working. But he is still sleeping. Either he will be able to come off it or, to continue his life, they might need to intubate him. The doctor made it clear this choice would cause suffering and the aftermath would likely not justify the pain. She spoke of dignity and respect.
This evening I am spending the night across from the tubes and technology . I need to be present, keep an eye on him, witness this stage of a long eventful life.
